Humboldt, IA – With the calendar flipping to October, the City of Humboldt’s new water usage rates will go into effect for this month, meaning that resident’s October usage will be reflected on their November billing.

The city approved new water rates earlier this year, which features a 28% increase in the base rate, which will increase to $20. The city’s last rate increase took place in 2020.

Humboldt City Administrator Cole Bockelmann stated in July during initial discussions that the city needed to increase their base rate by 28 percent to fix a shortfall in water treatment operating costs.

Humboldt’s base rate through September’s usage was at $14.46, before being raised to the now current rate of $20. The usage rate is set to also increase this year and next year each at 10 percent and increase for the third year of enactment at five percent.
