Iowa Falls, IA – Humboldt’s girls’ and boys’ soccer teams were back in North Central Conference play Thursday, the girls’ team at Iowa Falls-Alden and the boys’ team in Humboldt against the Cadets.
In the girls’ match, Humboldt scored with one minute remaining in regulation to earn a 1-1 draw against Iowa Falls-Alden. The Cadets got on the board first after Demi Beaubien scored in the 29th minute to give the Cadets the 1-0 lead. With one minute remaining in regulation, Humboldt’s Zoey Montag scored off a loose rebound to tie the match at 1-1 in the draw. It was Montag’s first career goal at the varsity level.
The draw ends a 15-match losing streak for Humboldt against Iowa Falls Holden and is the first non-loss for the Wildcats against the Cadets since 2014.
Humboldt Wildcats head girls’ soccer coach Rod Mooney on the draw, “We had to do a really good job of keeping our composure tonight. It was a really physical game between two good teams, and there was a couple of cards tossed around on the other side, and we just needed to keep our composure and keep doing what we were doing. We talked about perseverance at halftime and trying to make sure that we keep our composure no matter what happens and keep playing really good defense. I thought we really did a nice job defensively against a really good offensive team.”
Humboldt is 3-0-1 on the season and is set to host Clear Lake on Tuesday.
The Humboldt boys’ soccer team bounced back from a 4-0 loss on Monday at Wright County Soccer in Belmont with an 8-0 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden.
Pacing the Wildcats was freshman Callen Johnson, who registered four goals in the win. Adrian Foster and Spencer Scranton each scored twice for the Wildcats.
The Humboldt boys’ soccer team improves to 2-1-2 draws on the season and will visit Clear Lake on Monday.
