Des Moines, IA – The third and final day of the 2026 Iowa High School Track and Field Championships at the Blue Oval at Drake Stadium in Des Moines saw Humboldt compete in three events.

The Humboldt Boys’ Sprint Medley Relay team of Griffin Groat, Valley Davis, Jackson Flaherty, and Chase Flaherty had placed 19th in Class 3A but were disqualified after a runner on the team had stepped on the line outside of their lane. Humboldt’s state qualifying quartet broke the school record twice during the season.

In the 3A Girls’ 800-meter run, Humboldt’s Brynn Malo placed 22nd with her season’s best time of 2:28.14.

“Definitely was feeling some emotions before the race, but I remember turning the last corner and though this is the last 100 meters of your career. You got to just go. I stayed on two feet this year, so it’s all I could ask for. I feel like I raced pretty well. I haven’t ran that fast all year. It was fun getting to race with a faster group of girls, so I think that helped a lot.”

Malo beat her seed time of 2:31.39 and finished two spots better than her seed placement of 24th in the final race of her high school career.

Humboldt’s Aubrey Fisher placed 20th with her season’s best time of 5:04.61 seconds in the Class 3A Girls’ 1500-meter run.

“It was really fun to be able to race with all of the fast girls and some people that I recognize from our conference and be able to try my best and just see what I could do. I kind of conserved a lot of energy for the end, which I think I might have conserved a little too much since I kind of started out in the back, but it was kind of nice to be able to pass girls at the end with the energy I had left.”

Fisher beat her seed time of 5:07.04 and finished three spots better than her seed placement of 23rd.
