Memorial Day ceremonies planned across Humboldt County on May 25

Communities across Humboldt County will honor the nation’s fallen service members with Memorial Day ceremonies and events on Monday, May 25.

Humboldt/Dakota City

The American Legion Adams Post 119 of Humboldt and VFW Post 5240 of Dakota City will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at Bicknell Park in Humboldt beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The ceremony includes a short program along the reading of the 28 names of veterans who died in the past year, followed by a rifle salute at the park.

Following the service at Bicknell Park, the honor guard will travel to area cemeteries for additional observances at the following approximate times:

  • 10:05 a.m. — Union Cemetery
  • 10:25 a.m. — Corinth Cemetery
  • 10:45 a.m. — Indian Mound Cemetery
  • 11:00 a.m. — St. Mary’s Cemetery

Livermore

The Livermore American Legion Otto Field Post No. 415 will host its annual Memorial Day program at 11 a.m. on Main Street in Livermore, south of the Humboldt County Freedom Rock and Veterans Memorial Park.

The program will be conducted by American Legion Post 415 and will include a rifle squad salute and the sounding of Taps. American flags will also be displayed as part of the traditional observance.

A potluck dinner will immediately follow the ceremony at the Livermore Legion Hall.

Lu Verne

Lu Verne’s annual Memorial Day car show will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Main Street/DeWitt Street.

A Memorial Day service will take place during the event at 1 p.m. Music will be provided by Mojo Productions, with Carter Nath performing during the memorial service. KHBT-FM 97.7 The Bolt will broadcast live from the event from noon to 2 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs. A free will donation will be accepted.

Renwick

Renwick’s annual Memorial Day program will begin at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park.

Former U.S. Army Sergeant Mike Hulsey, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and was wounded in Iraq, will serve as the guest speaker.

Bode

Bode’s Memorial Day celebration will be held at the Community Center, located at 105 Humboldt Ave., beginning at 10 a.m.

Light refreshments, including coffee and donuts, will be served following the program.

Gilmore City

Gilmore City’s Memorial Day celebration, presented by the American Legion, will be held in the Gilmore City School gym beginning at 10 a.m.
