Algona, IA – A crop-dusting plane made an emergency landing Wednesday afternoon in rural Algona after losing power, according to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the Kossuth County Law Enforcement Center received a 911 call at approximately 4:17 p.m. on July 29 reporting that a spray plane had crash-landed near 180th Street.
Investigators determined the pilot, the only occupant of a Cessna Model A188B registered to D and K Aviation Inc. of Milford, experienced a loss of engine power before clipping power lines near a residence. The aircraft then came to rest on the property’s acreage.
The pilot was treated at the scene by Kossuth County EMS for minor cuts and did not require transportation to a medical facility. No one at the residence was injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and will conduct its own investigation into the incident.
Midland Cooperative responded to repair the damaged power lines and restore electrical service in the area.
The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Kossuth County Emergency Management, Kossuth County EMS, and the Algona Fire Department.
