Fort Dodge, IA – A Bayard man has been arrested following an altercation Saturday night outside a Fort Dodge convenience store that left an 18-year-old man injured.
The Fort Dodge Police Department says officers and Webster County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Star Convenience Store at 1601 Fifth Avenue South around 10:55 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of an altercation between two men.
When officers arrived, they found 18-year-old Dawson D. Skoland Rattray of Fort Dodge suffering from a laceration to his right arm.
Witnesses told officers the other person involved had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Officers provided medical assistance to Skoland Rattray until the Fort Dodge Fire Department arrived.
Skoland Rattray was transported by ambulance before being Life Flighted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Police say his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
The Fort Dodge Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division assisted patrol officers with the investigation. Investigators processed the scene and interviewed witnesses.
As the investigation continued, police received information regarding the possible location of the suspect. Officers responded to that location and detained the suspect without incident.
Police identified the suspect as 45-year-old David J. Richman of Bayard.
Richman has been arrested and charged with assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony.
