Webster County, IA – A shooting in rural Webster County is under investigation after deputies were called to a residence Wednesday night.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to 1762 Johnson Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after an initial caller reported that an individual had been shot in the abdomen and that the suspect was still on the property.
Deputies arrived at approximately 8:37 p.m. and located a male with an apparent gunshot wound. Deputies began life-saving measures before Fort Dodge Fire Rescue arrived and transported the victim to Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
At approximately 8:53 p.m., Webster County deputies, Iowa State Patrol troopers and Fort Dodge Police officers searched the property and located a male matching the description of the alleged shooter provided by witnesses. The male is being detained for questioning by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
Throughout the evening, detectives with the Webster County Criminal Investigations Division and agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations executed several search warrants and interviewed multiple witnesses.
Authorities say they seized several items pertinent to the investigation, including a firearm, mobile devices and firearm accessories.
The sheriff’s office says the incident is isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
