Humboldt, Iowa — For what feels like an eternity, we are finally talking about Humboldt sports heating back up.
The Wildcat girls and boys’ soccer teams will both in be on action kicking off their 2018 schedule next week at Greene County.
The girls will open proceedings at 4:30 p.m., with the boys following up at 6:00 p.m.
Coming off of a 4-11 season, expectations remain high for the girls club. The group won a playoff game last year, defeating Sioux Center 4-1. They return senior goaltender Bri Jensen and leading scorer Jaydn Smith.
The boys’ enjoyed a renaissance in their own regard under new head coach Joe Hadar. Hadar inherited a 1-17 team and quickly transformed them to an 8-9 contender.
This year, they could be looking at another strong season, with a push for conference looking somewhat realistic.
They’ll return one of the top scorers in the region in junior Alex Gonzalez, who poached 21 goals last year. Lucas Volf also returns after scoring 8 goals last season.
