Iowa Ag Leaders Go Overseas to Talk Trade, Soybeans

Des Moines, IA — Iowa Soybean Association CEO Kirk Leeds has led a delegation of Iowans to China and Japan to meet with Ag leaders in each country according to Pat Powers of KQWC.

Leeds is meeting with leaders as trade between the US and China has come to standstill. Before this trade trouble, soybeans and soybean products were the top export in the state worth close to $3.3 billion and one quarter of all soybean exports were to China.

Leeds hopes these meetings can spur some positive momentum towards trade as Iowa farmers have been stuck between a rock and a hard place with talks seemingly going well at times then falling apart. Leeds and his delegation is currently in Japan touring ag facilities before heading back home to Iowa on Friday.
