Humboldt, IA – The county’s democratic convention will be going digital with an online convention during COVID-19 shutdown.

In a press release from the Humboldt County Democratic party they say this week, they join other Iowa Democratic county committees in a remote county convention process. In person conventions were canceled in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The updated, non-present county convention process begins this week with online registration and nomination for local representatives to district and state conventions (also likely to be held electronically). Emails with links to an online registration form were sent to all delegates and alternates elected at the February 3 caucus.

Next, elections for district/state delegates and county affirmative chairs will be conducted remotely on April 22-30.

Humboldt County Democratic party chair Joe Hadar says that “consistent with our values, the health and public safety of all Iowans is the number one priority of the Iowa Democratic Party.” The state and country are facing a period of uncertainty due to the spread of the coronavirus, and they are adapting our county conventions to move forward without risking our public health.

The Humboldt County Democratic convention was originally scheduled for March 21 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Iowa. The Humboldt County Republicans were able to hold their convention on March 14 before the restrictions of gathering in groups of 10 or more.
