Butler County, IA – An Iowa senator enters the top 10 in time served as a senator in the United State.
On Tuesday, April 14, Iowa Senator Chick Grassley (R-IA) became the 10 longest-serving senator in U.S. history. Grassley has served 39 years and 4 months. He was first elected in 1980.
In a press release Grassley says he is honored to represent Iowans in what he calls the people’s branch of the federal government. He further says that is it his job to ensure all Iowans have a voice on the senate floor.
Since his first election, Iowans remain his top priority throughout his public service. Recently Grassley led negotiations on the CARES Act to provide emergency tax relief to small businesses and their employees. He continues to work provide expanded access to foreign markets for agricultural exports, lower the cost of prescription drug prices and increase the use of renewable fuels.
Grassley also serves as the President pro tempore becoming just the second Iowan to be appointed to this position. He is currently one of two farmers serving on the U.S. Senate and he has not missed a vote since 1993.
