Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt CSD is planning to continue forward with voluntary continuous learning programs and provides an updates for the class of 2020.

Interim Superintendent for the Humboldt Community School District Mike Sherwood provides some updates to KHBT from the district on their plans going forward with the rest of the school year. This includes the continuous learning plan the district plans to use, an update on plans for a graduation ceremony and the return to learn plan for Humboldt CSD.

Sherwood says that the district will be continuing the voluntary continuous learning model for grades K through eight. At this time grades nine through 12 will still be on the voluntary model but discussions are taking place about moving towards a required model for a period of time. This is only in a discussion phase and may not happen Sherwood elaborates.

The district plans to hold a virtual graduation ceremony on May 24. This ceremony will also include senior awards. They are also discussing the possibility of having a parade following the conclusion of the virtual ceremony. Additionally Sherwood says they plan to host prom on June 13.

UPDATE: As a result of seniors voice their desires, Humboldt High School announces via a social media post that they are planning to have a traditional ceremony on June 21.

At this time there are no plans set in stone for the return to learn plan in the district. Sherwood says that the Iowa Department of Education will be providing guidance in the near future to schools on how to proceed. Once this guidance is received he says the district will begin formulating their plan. The deadline for the plan to be filed with the state is July 1.
