Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors is considering giving up county’s share of Oakdale Park.
During the meeting of the supervisors on Monday, Aug. 17, they were approached by members of the county’s conservation board and citizens in regards to the park. Oakdale Park is located in Wright County but Humboldt County owns a share of the land.
President of the Humboldt County Conservation Board Bob Rasmussen spoke to the supervisors. He told them that Humboldt County has been the primary caretaker of the park recently. He continues to say while his group has done a good job the primary concern has been people using the park to consumer and use illegal substances. The conservation board president proposed that Humboldt give their share back to Wright and that Oakdale Park be closed.
Rasmussen also says that Wright County wants the land that Humboldt County owns. However, Supervisor Rick Pedersen brought up that the land out there is valuable and that it would not be responsible to give the land away. The supervisors proposed two options. The first was they offer a very reasonable price to the neighboring county to buy the land. The second was Humboldt keeps their share but Wright County takes over the responsibility of monitoring the park.
The conservation board representative agreed to reach out to the Wright County and give the supervisors proposals. Further discussions on Oakdale Park are expected to occur in future supervisors meetings.
