Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County supervisors are amending the county budget to accommodate for updated spending.
During the meeting of the board of supervisors on Monday, Dec. 7, they held a public hearing to discuss a new budget amendment for the current fiscal year 2020-21. The budget amendment was present by Auditor Peggy Rice.
Two ares of the budget received larger amendments. The first was “road and transportation” receiving a $650,000 amendment. County Engineer Ben Loots told the board that majority of it was construction that had carried over from last fiscal year to this. The other portion was equipment purchase carry over, namely two dump trucks budgeted for last fiscal year that are arriving in the county next month.
The second area receiving a large amendment is the “capital projects” area for $1,478,500. Rice told the board some of that was for the secondary roads department. The majority of it was for the county’s conservation board and sheriff’s office for their portion of the bonding proceeds. The amendment shows an “operating transfer in” of $1,028,500 under “revenues and other financing sources” as part of the bond portion of this amendment.
Smaller areas of the budget receiving an amendment include “public safety and legal services” by $5,000 to increase the medical examiner fee. The physical health and social services line was adjusted by $2,300 due to a bill that arrived after the new fiscal year. “Government services to residents” received a $5,000 increase due to the special election for the local option sales tax.
The as a result of the amendment the total ending fund balance at the end of the next fiscal year will be $2,330,557. This is a decrease of $1,112,300 from the balance prior to the amendment.
There was no general public present for the public hearing. The county board of supervisors approved the amendment as presented.
