Humboldt, IA -The Humboldt Wildcats boys basketball team needed a win to stay with Clarion Goldfield Dows atop the North Central Conference and they got it with with a resounding win over Hampton-Dumont/CAL 76-54.
Everything was going right for Humboldt including this nifty move by Ben Kuehnast inside.
Will Orness had 18 points to lead Humboldt. Next up for Wildcats is a trip to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Friday for the NCC championship.
On the girls side, Humboldt played tough against Hampton-Dumont/Cal on Tuesday but ultimately fell just short 59-54. Wildcats trailed by as many as 8 points in the first quarter but came back to take a 2 point lead at halftime, and this layup by Joie Smith helped lead the comeback.
Humboldt lead 25-23 at the half and looked things looked good early in the 3rd, but late in the period the Bulldogs went on a run to take the lead back and extended the lead to 9 in the 4th. Humboldt would trim it to 5 with under a minute left but it wasn’t enough as the Wildcats fall 10-9 overall and 7-5 in the NCC. They travel to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Friday.
