Humboldt, IA -The Humboldt High School speech team is sending students to the State-Large Group competition in Spencer on Saturday. Emily Wiebke, is the large-group speech coach at Humboldt High School and says there are 21 students going to State on Saturday in including two ensemble acting groups, readers theater, two short films, and Musical theater with Ryder Wickett and Ellie Clark who are performing a piece from Dear Evan Hansen. Luke Sievers has gone to State before and qualified again this year in Short Film along with Jay Keenan and Kristen Copenhever. Other state participants include Jordan Call, Teryn McKimmey, Chloe and Morgan Mayall and Dani Abens.
The Wildcats begin their performances at 10:15 at Spencer High School on Saturday and Wiebke encourages people to come support the team.
Price of admission is $3 at the door and $1 for a program. Wiebke says that Humboldt’s school code is 941 and that teams are not identified by school as a part of the qualification/disqualification process so judges don’t know what school the performers are from as a part of the objectivity and biases policies. Wiebke asks Humboldt Speech supporters attending state at Spencer High School to not wear Humboldt clothing to maintain objectivity and non-bias.
