Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt updated the community on water conservation during the river flooding.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
We appreciate your help with water conservation during this emergency! It’s working!
We have been hopeful that the new pumps at the lift station will be able to handle increased pressure on our sanitary sewer system from flood water infiltration, and we are urging residents to conserve their water use as much as possible to avoid adding to the sewer system.
For now, the pumps are doing what they’re supposed to do. As long as we can keep unnecessary water usage (both indoors and out) to a minimum, we have a better chance of not overloading the capacity of the pumps.
Some suggestions for emergency water conservation include:
• Limit laundry and dishwasher loads to only when absolutely necessary
• Limit house cleaning with water
• Limit shower time as much as possible, take showers instead of baths
• Limit outdoor water use (lawn & garden watering, car washing, outdoor water play)
Outdoor water use will put added pressure on the storm sewers
Taking these small steps is making a significant difference on the overall capacity and viability of the sanitary sewer system during this flood event.

La Ciudad de Humboldt está bajo una advertencia de inundación de la bifurcación oeste del río Des Moines.
La inundación de la bifurcación oeste se considerará un registro rompible y de naturaleza sin precedentes.
