Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors heard the latest update regarding the Rutland Quarry saga at Monday morning’s session.
The July 1 Board of Adjustment Hearing on the Special Exception Use Application for Cole Anderson to restart the quarry was denied by the board after a lengthy hearing. With the Board of Adjustment’s ruling, the Board of Supervisors have 30 days to ask for another review of the decision, which runs through August 14. A temporary injunction had been in place against Anderson from starting operations at the quarry while the application was going through the permit process with the Board of Adjustment. A motion to dismiss the injunction was granted on July 10 after the board denied Anderson’s permit at the conclusion of the July 1 hearing.
Humboldt County Attorney Jon Beatty provided steps forward after he was relayed concerns about quarry operations continuing.
Beatty stated to the supervisors that the punishment for a violation of the ordinance $100 fine or up to 30 days in jail.
