Fort Dodge, IA – A Fort Dodge man convicted of first-degree murder in death of his father will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Alec Jones received the sentence of life in prison without parole on Tuesday after his motion for a new trial was denied.

Jones was convicted by a Webster County jury of first-degree murder in August after prosecutors told the jury he and his brother, Nathan Jones, shot and killed their father Dennis Jones in April 2024. Dennis Jones’ body was found in a ditch in rural Webster County by a mail carrier, which led to the brothers’ arrest.

Nathan Jones’ trial will be set at a later date.
