Coralville, IA – Day one of the 2025 Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) Wrestling State Tournament from Xtreme Arena in Coralville has wrapped up with one Humboldt wrestler advancing to Day two.
Humboldt Senior and No. 6 Brooklyn Robinson advanced to the Class 1A 235-pound semifinal round with win by pin fall over No. 3 Emma Cook of Colfax-Mingo in the Quarterfinals during the Day one session of the 2025 IGHSAU Girls Wrestling State Tournament from Xtreme Arena in Coralville.
The pin came one minute and 36 seconds into the first period, marking Robinson’s second pin in the first period of the day, following her pin in the first round over Ava Trende of New Hampton/Turkey Valley. Robinson’s pin in that match one minute in. Robinson was overcome with emotion after reaching the semifinals.
The win over Cook secured Robinson’s spot as one of the final four wrestlers on the championship side of the bracket in 1A and also makes her the first Humboldt girls’ wrestler to place on the podium since girls’ wrestling became sanctioned in the IGHSAU starting with the 2022 tournament. Robinson says placing in her senior season is special.
The senior faces a familiar foe in the 1A Semis in two seed Jocelyn Buffum of Missouri Valley, who pinned Robinson in last year’s tournament during the fourth consolation round, ending Robinson’s junior season and denying her a place on the podium. Robinson won later last year in AAU wrestling over Buffum.
Humboldt sophomore No. 10 Danica Diedrick made her second consecutive appearance at the State Tournament Thursday. The 175-pound wrestler fell in her first match of the day by pin one minute and 20 second into the first period to No. 7 Kira Cox of Applington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center. Diedrick would advance to the second consolation round with a win by an 8-4 decision over No. 15 Emma Walker of Panorama. In the second consolation round, Diedrick’s season came to a close as she fell by pin one minute into the first period to No. 1 Briar Blake of North Tama, a senior wrestler who was coming off her first loss of the season in an upset in the quarterfinals.
Diedrick ended her sophomore season at 42-10.
Friday’s day two session begins at 10 a.m. with Championship Semifinals, Consolation 3rd Round and Semifinals, and seventh place matches.
The evening session begins at 6 p.m. with the State Championship, third place and fifth place matches.
