Humboldt softball outlasts Belmond-Klemme 9-3

Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt softball team won 9-3 over Belmond-Klemme in non-conference play Thursday night at Humboldt High School.

The Wildcats scored two runs in the first inning and would surrender the lead in the top of third to the Broncos with Belmond-Klemme recording three runs. Humboldt would tie the game at three in the bottom of third with a run.

After two scoreless innings, Landry Lash hit an RBI single to give the Wildcats the lead in the sixth, leading to a sixth run frame for Humboldt to take a 9-3 lead heading to the seventh inning. Belmond-Klemme would load the bases with two outs, but failed to bring home a run with Elyse Olson making a diving catch in left field to end the game.

In the circle for Humboldt, Adalee Nolting pitched a complete game of seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Offensively, Claire Dieleman had a 4-4 night with three runs scored, Abby Armitage had a 2-rbi double and Gracie Lyon, Landry Lash, Elsie Hubbell and Sadie Hubbell each had an RBI.

Humboldt improves to 4-4 overall and will host Hampton-Dumont/CAL in North Central Conference (NCC) play tonight.
