The National Weather Service says there is an elevated fire danger this afternoon for all of central Iowa until 7 p.m. due to current conditions.
A combination of strong winds generally from the south to southwest at 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph, dry surface vegetation, and low relative humidity between 25 to 35 percent will lead to the elevated fire danger this afternoon.
Any fires that ignite could spread rapidly. Burning is discouraged under these conditions. Also, take care to prevent the start of accidental fires when smoking or operating vehicles around dry vegetation.
