Humboldt, IA – Power Co-op Employees Credit Union held an open house Wednesday, September 23, to celebrate its new building in Humboldt.
Manager and CEO Andrea Harms says the new building was several years in the making as the credit union needed additional space to serve its growing membership.
“We needed more space to be able to take care of our membership. We have all about 3,900 members all across the United States.”
The credit union broke ground on the project in November 2025, began moving into the new facility August 31, and officially opened to the public September 2. Jensen Builders of Fort Dodge was the contractor for the project.
Harms says members will notice significantly more space and privacy at the new facility, particularly when meeting with loan officers or conducting other financial business.
“There will be a lot more personal one-on-one ability for them to come in and talk with either their loan officer and not feel like that others are right there being able to hear.”
Power Co-op Employees Credit Union was established in 1956. Its membership originally consisted of Corn Belt Power employees but has since expanded to employees of participating electric cooperatives, select employee groups in and around Humboldt, and eligible family members.
The credit union has eight employees and nearly 4,000 members. Services include checking accounts, debit cards, mobile banking, remote deposit capture, certificates and loans.
Harms says the new building provides the credit union with room to grow.
“We have so much potential to grow. What we can do when we get to this facility and have everything organized the way it should be, the sky’s the limit.”
The future of the former Power Co-op Employees Credit Union building remains under discussion. Harms says no decision has been made on whether the building will be sold, moved or used for another purpose.
