Humboldt, Iowa — Corn planting has begun in northern Iowa.

According to a report from the United States Department of Agriculture, 36% of Iowa corn has been planted as of last week.

Unseasonably cold and wet weather has delayed planting. Iowa is roughly five days behind the five-year average. Corn that has been planted is slow to emerge. The USDA report says there were not many days suitable for planting last week and the next few days will create further delays, due to the weather.
