Washington, D.C. — A Humboldt teenager is a national award winner.

Samuel Sexe, 18, was honored in Washington, D.C. for his volunteer work. Samuel, along with 100 other top youth volunteers across the country, received a $1000 award and a personal congratulations from actress Viola Davis at the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

The Humboldt High School senior responded to more than 200 calls as a volunteer emergency medical technician. Principal Lori Westhoff gave Samuel special permission to respond to emergency calls during the school day.

Samuel says he knows the lifelong impact an EMT can have and wants to carry on the tradition his father and siblings have set.
