Ernst Pushes for Improved Disaster Relief Package

Des Moines, Iowa — Senator Jodi Ernst (R-IA) says a vote will be held this week on a disaster relief package for areas of Iowa affected by recent flooding.

Ernst says she hopes this will be a bipartisan effort that “can actually get to the desk of the president.”

Ernst toured flood damage in hardest hit areas of Iowa last weekend – including Davenport and Buffalo. She says it reminds her of working as a National Guardsman in the Iowa floods of 2008 and 2011, “not knowing if families are going to be able to get back in their homes, not knowing if businesses will be able to [reopen] – the economic damage to the communities is significant and they need assistance.”

A disaster aid package was passed last week, but the Iowa senator wants to include provisions to ensure farmers would be able to buy federal crop insurance.
