Des Moines, Iowa — A surprising result has come from the Iowa state government as Governor Kim Reynolds (R-IA) vetoed her second bill in two years.

The bill would have allowed for more THC to be put into cannabis pills, oils, and creams that could be produced and sold in Iowa.

The bill passed by an overwhelming majority in the senate and house but a state advisory board raised concerns about the scientific evidence of medical marijuana helping patients.

A few notable Republican leaders including Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver (R-IA) issued statements saying they are disappointed with the veto and vow to work on expanding the program next year. Democrats who helped with the bill also voiced their displeasure saying its distressing news for Iowans who seek relief from a plant-based product instead of opioids.
