Des Moines, IA — State Senator Joe Bolkcom is leading a charge in the Iowa Congress to override the medical marijuana bill that was vetoed by Governor Kim Reynolds back in May.

House File 732 is a law if passed would allow an increase in the THC levels a patient can prescribed in a 90 day period. Currently, Iowa only allows for 3 grams and the new bills would raise the limit to 25 grams. Bolkcom is urging congressmen and women to submit written request to override in order to hold a special session to override the bill. Bolkcom announced that as of June 24th, 18 Democratic Senators and 47 representatives have pledged to submit their request. The bill would need two thirds majority from the House and Senate.

Originally the bill passed with overwhelming bi-partisan support with a 96-3 vote in the house and 40-7 vote in the Iowa senate.
