Close To 20 Gunshots Fired In Fort Dodge, Injures One

Fort Dodge, IA — A media release from the Fort Dodge Police Department announced that over 20 gunshots were fired near the 1800 block of 4th Avenue South on Saturday afternoon. Multiple calls were received by the department as the shots resulted in a 16 year old male being injured in the incident.

The minor was transported to Unity Point Hospital were he was treated for non life threatening injuries. Per the release, many bystanders confirmed the number of gunshots and says it was nothing short of a miracle no other person was injured. Investigation is still being done, but it is believed to have been a pre planned drive by.

“On Saturday, August 3, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received
multiple calls at approximately 1:34 P.M. regarding shots fired in the area of the 1800 block of
4th Ave South. Information indicated that a vehicle may have been involved and fled the area.
Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department arrived a short time later and contacted a 16‐
year‐old male who appeared to have been injured by gunfire. In addition, officers located
evidence of multiple shots being fired in the area.
The 16‐year‐old male was transported by personal vehicle to Unity Point – Trinity
Regional Medical Center for treatment of non‐life‐threatening injuries to his legs. Officers with
the Patrol and Investigations Division continued to process the scene for evidence and seek out
information from witnesses in the area. Collection of evidence near the scene indicated there
were close to twenty shots fired. It is simply nothing short of a miracle no other bystanders
were injured in this senseless act.
The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing to follow up on this case. We strongly
encourage those who have knowledge of this incident to come forward. Those involved clearly
have no regard for the safety of the general public and acts like this cannot be tolerated.
Anyone with information may contact the Fort Dodge Police Department or submit tips
anonymously via Crime Stoppers. At this point, we have reason to believe those involved knew
one another and do not feel as though this was a random act.”
