Humboldt, IA — A Storm Lake man is dead after a rollover accident late Friday morning in Humboldt County.

According to a police report from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Leonard Peterson, 82, was traveling eastbound on 270th Street, approximately 5 miles south of Gilmore City, when his vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, drifted north. The pickup then swerved south and over-corrected, leading Peterson to lose control of the truck.

The Silverado rolled several times and came to a rest on its wheels in a ditch. The vehicle sustained an estimated $8,000 in damage and was considered a total loss.

Peterson was transported to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Gilmore City Fire and Ambulance, Humboldt Ambulance, and Jergens Towing of Humboldt.
