Humboldt, IA – the Census Bureau is sending out census cards in the coming weeks with an online response option.

Iowans will be receiving their U.S. census cards in the mail this coming week. The card will give instructions on how to report in the 2020 census online. City Administrator Travis Goedken says that responding to the census is very important.

“The census not only counts the people that live in Humboldt, the state of Iowa, but it’s much more than how many people are here” he says. “[The census] determines what level state funding we receive, federal funding we receive as well as legislative representation”.

The Census Bureau is pushing for higher online responses as this is the first year it will be made available for most people. “So I cannot stress enough, when you receive that notice in the mail, go online and respond to that survey” Goedken presses “make sure everyone is counted”.

After time has passed, the City of Humboldt will be sending people door to door to take census information. However, Goedken says the city and state prefer everyone take it online at their earliest convenience.
