Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is following the guidance of the governor and shutting down all playgrounds and public athletic fields for the rest of the month.

City administrator Travis Goedken says as part of the proclamation by Governor Kim Reynolds on Monday, April 6, city playground equipment, fields and similar facilities are closed to the public. These closures are designed to help prevent spreading COVID-19 and will be in effect until April 30.

Additionally, the Parks Commission in Humboldt met Tuesday, April 7, to discuss additional measures. These additional measures taken by the Parks Commission include canceling and prohibiting organized team activities on city fields. This includes team tournaments that take place on public fields.

Goedken does warn that city and county law enforcement will be required to break up any gatherings of ten or more people as well as people using newly restricted areas. While these closings are temporary the City of Humboldt alongside the State of Iowa reminds everyone that every measure put in place is designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect our community.
