HCMH requests homemade masks

Humboldt, IA – HCMH is making the request to the community to assist in the making of homemade masks to donate to the hospital.

Humboldt County Memorial Hospital says while they still are equipped with an adequate supply of masks they are asking the community to begin donating homemade masks. These are proactive measures in the ongoing efforts to be well prepared during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The design that HCMH is asking the community to use was designed by the clinicians at UnityPoint Health. It is called the Olson after 1930’s legendary maker nurse Lyla Mae Olson. There are no special tools required to make these masks and the pattern is compatible with common mask patterns being released around the county. Masks do not have to be stylish, just well sewn with no frayed edges or missed seams.

HCMH appreciates your time and talents as it can greatly impact their ability to care for the community. They are grateful for the overwhelming offers of support that continues to pour in. Detailed instructions on how to make the Olson can be found at humboldthospital.org/filesimages/Articles/UnityPointHealth-OlsonMask-Instructions.pdf

HCMH and Humboldt County Public Health are requesting that those dropping off masks please call ahead to arrange the drop-off.
