Humboldt baseball ends week with 17-6 road win over Charles City

Charles City, IA — The Humboldt baseball team continued its strong play Thursday night, rolling past Charles City 17-6 in a non-conference matchup.

The Wildcats scored in six of seven innings, plating three runs in the first, five in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

Grant Goodell earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings while allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits. He struck out five while walking three and hitting two batters. Dane Clark tossed a scoreless seventh inning in relief, allowing no hits while striking out one.

Clark also led Humboldt’s offensive outburst, finishing 4-for-4 with two home runs, two singles and five RBIs.

Avyon Sutterfield added three hits, going 3-for-5 with two singles, a double and three RBIs. Griffin Groat finished 2-for-4 with a single, a triple and two RBIs, while Valley Davis scored four runs and went 1-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. Chase Hansen also drove in two runs for the Wildcats.

With the victory, Humboldt improves to 15-8 on the season, while Charles City falls to 5-17.

The Wildcats return to action Monday for their final North Central Conference doubleheader of the regular season at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. First pitch for game one is at 5 p.m. with game two following at approximately 7 p.m.
