Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt CSD administrative staff is seeing some new faces and slight alterations of the administrative staff starting in the 2020-21 school year.

While new Superintendent of Schools for Humboldt Community School District Jim Murray won’t officially start his new job until July 1 he is still tasked with hiring the new administration for the district. This includes new faces and familiar faces in new places as the district restructures its administrative staff. Details on the administrative team was shared to KHBT by Interim Superintendent Mike Sherwood.

While there are not too many changes on how the administrative staff is formatted the district cites efficiency as the reason for some of the changes. There are two changes made to the layout of the administrative staff that standout.

Previously the Elementary School Principal has been a single person position held by George Brudder. Mr. Brudder serves as the principal for both Taft and Mease Elementary and has to go back and forth between the two as needed. Mr. Brudder is retiring and the position is now getting separated along with the creation of a district curriculum director that will be Lora Kester. Kester will also serves in part as the principal at Mease while Ryan Fedders will serve as the full time principal for Taft.

A second bigger change coming to the administrative staff is separating activities director positions from the assistant principals. Greg Thomas will officially be serving as the activities director for grades 7-12 and has resigned as the assistant principal at Humboldt High School. The board says this change is designed to provide the APs the ability to focus solely on the students in the school and their safety and security.

Here is the entire administrative staff for the 2020-21 academic year under Superintendent Jim Murray:

  • The principals:
    • District Curriculum Coordinator/Mease Elementary: Lora Kester
    • Taft Elementary: Ryan Fedders
    • Middle School: Brenda Geitzenauer
    • High School: Paul Numedaul (following the retirement of Lori Westoff at the end of the academic year)
  • Assistant Principals:
    • Middle School: Creighton Jenness
    • High School: Abby Horbach
  • Activities Director:
    • Grades 7-12: Greg Thomas

No matter how the administrative staff aligns the Humboldt CSD will continue to have the same goal. They plan to continue to provide the best setting possible for students to succeed academically
