Humboldt, IA – The weekly tradition of Shag the Drag will once again be going on in Downtown Humboldt Friday evening but this week there was be a break in food pantry collections.

Once again Downtown Humboldt will be playing host to a Friday night Shag the Drag. A weekly tradition of slowly cruising with the community and listening to great music while practicing social distancing will continue on. Shag the Drag coordinator Jennifer Tille says it’s nice to see the community having fun with the event. She says it’s really cool to see how the community continues to come together and notes that there seems to be an increase of participation as the weather warms up.

Tille informs KHBT that there will be no food drive this week during Shag the Drag. With the weather calling for rain, she decided that it was better to take a break. Tille does say the plan is to do collection for the food pantry next week.

Through Shag the Drag alone Tille reports that the community has raised 2500 pounds of food for the food pantry. Additionally a total of $1,113 in monetary donation has been collected to benefit the Humboldt County Food Pantry. She says she and the pantry would like to thank the Humboldt community for their help in keeping the shelves stocked.

Besides Shag the Drag, food pantry donations can be dropped off on Thursdays from 9 am to 3 pm at the Engineer Building on Highway 3. Additionally Tille says that koozies are available to purchase via the Humboldt Shag the Drag Facebook page, all proceedings to benefit the food pantry.

While Shag the Drag will be without the food pantry collection this week it will still be a chance for a fun cruise with the community. KHBT will be providing two hours of commercial free music from 7 pm to 9 pm. We hope to see the community out there having fun while still be responsible and courteous to others while practicing social distancing.
