Humboldt, IA – Local arts council is offering virtual classes weekly to help encourage creativity during unusual times caused by COVID-19.

The Humboldt Area Arts Council is hosting weekly classes to keep the community engaged and involved during the COVID-19 pandemic. Humboldt native Sarah Rasmussen uses Facebook to distribute weekly videos to help teach the community a new crafting skill.

Rasmussen releases two videos a week on Tuesday and Friday. Tuesday is what she calls and “art at home project” that involves common household objects. Usually these videos are prerecorded while Friday’s videos are live. On Friday Rasmussen calls it “doodle time with Sarah” where she goes over basic drawing techniques.

Rasmussen is currently living in Massachusetts but she enjoys how the video give her the ability to give back to the community she grew up in. While she is far away it still gives her a way to reconnect and give back to Humboldt. It is also a perfect example of how these videos can reach people outside the Humboldt community due to their distribution platform.

Rasmussen concludes be telling everyone that perfection is not the goal of these classes. She says she wants to emphasize that nothing that is produced by the viewer is bad or wrong. She hopes that anyone who comes and watches the videos uses their imaginations and has fun.

Each week Sarah Rasmussen is releasing new videos on the Humboldt Area Arts Council Facebook. The videos come out at 10 am on Tuesdays and Fridays.
