Humboldt, IA – A senior at Humboldt High School joins the list of top students in the class of 2020 across the state of Iowa as a Governor’s Scholar.

Humboldt High School’s own Holly Kirchhoff has been selected as a 2020 Iowa Governor’s Scholar. In receiving this honor, Kirchhoff is recognized as one of the top students in the state of Iowa in both academic standing and extracurricular participation. She was chosen by Humboldt High School to be nominated for the honor earlier this year.

When she first found out she had been selected, Kirchhoff was shocked. “I’d never heard anything about it before” she says. She calls it an amazing thing to be nominated for by the school.

She calls it an honor to be nominated by the school. “I think it’s just a really cool thing to receive” she says. She notes that there are a lot of seniors in her class that are deserving of the same honor. The fact the school chose her is a real honor in her eyes.

Kirchhoff says if there is one teacher who she would like to thank; it’s her band instructor for inspiring her. She says part of the award is selecting one of the most influential teachers in her life and she chose Mr. Barker. “He had kind of inspired me to pursue music education in the future. So I would just like to thank him for everything he’s done” she says. Kirchhoff also wants to thank the school for nominating her.

Holly Kirchhoff finished her time at high school with a 4.0 GPA. While at Humboldt High School she has participated in multiple extracurricular activities including the National Honors Society, multiple music activities and a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams. She is one of 425 seniors across the state to receive this honor.
