Humboldt, IA – The HCDA is establishing programs to promote local purchasing and spending.

The Humboldt County Development Association is starting up a new program to encourage spending locally. According to HCDA Business Development Specialist, AJ Flurey, the program is called “Community Cash.” He helps break down the details of the program.

Community Cash is designed similarly to a program that used to be run by the Chamber of Commerce. Flurey says that after the chamber was dissolved HCDA took over some of their programs and duties. Among those programs was “Chamber Bucks” and he says the Community Cash program by HCDA is very similar. The purpose of the program is it allows someone to get a gift for a friend, loved one, co-worker, etc. and give them the ability to get something locally.

Flurey says the Community Cash program is the first program to replace a chamber program to help encourage supporting local business within Humboldt County. He says the plan was to launch the Community Cash program first to encourage the local spending. The certificate is good for any business in the county that partners with the HCDA. He says the county wide aspect is a big difference between Community Cash and Chamber Buck, which were only good for Humboldt and Dakota City.

From the business side of things, Flurey says that the money comes from a separate Community Cash account and is safe for business to accept. When someone uses a check received from HCDA at a business the money will be withdrawn from that account. He says they are anxious to get the program in full swing and encourages all businesses in the county to accept a Community Cash. He assures they are from the development association and if they have questions they can reach out.

Community Cash by HCDA encourages local spending in Humboldt County and is accepted by any business in the county willing to participate. Anyone wishing to purchase a check for themselves or a loved one can at the HCDA in Humboldt City Hall. There is a limit of $100 per certificate.

Questions about Community Cash should be directed to the Humboldt County Development Association at 515-332-2557.
