Humboldt, IA – Sherwood finishes time with Humboldt CSD, hopes his time was beneficial during this year’s difficulties.

Humboldt Community School District’s Interim Superintendent of Schools serving last few day in his position. On June 30, Mike Sherwood would be finishing his time as the interim superintendent for Humboldt. He talks with KHBT on his time with the district and the respect he has for the community.

Sherwood says he’s “enjoyed his time” working with Humboldt Community Schools. “I’ve enjoyed my time here very much, it’s a very good district” he says. He appreciates all the cooperation he’s received from the “great people, great staff.” He says everybody he’s work with has been very supportive and says Humboldt “should be very proud” of their school district.

For 14 years Sherwood served as the superintendent for Webster City Community Schools and shared time with Northeast Hamilton and Strafford before retiring. He says he was familiar and respected Humboldt and those who worked in the district. “So it intrigued me a little bit” Sherwood says. He thought if there was any way he could help the district he should offer his services when they were looking for an interim. “I hope the time I spent here, what I’ve been able to offer has been beneficial to the district.”

When coming out of retirement Sherwood did not know there would be a pandemic to help lead the district through but he hopes the district provided the best possible opportunity for student to learn. “It was certainly something that nobody expected” he says. “I think everybody just tried to do the best they could with it, take a step back and try to get the best data” Sherwood continues. He says that students lost a lot with the school year getting disrupted but hopes the district provided the best opportunity for students to grow and learn.

Following Sherwood’s departure, Humboldt Community Schools will be under the leadership of new Superintendent Jim Murray. Sherwood finishes by saying he wishes nothing but the best for the district going forward. “I’ve always had a great deal of respect for the community and the district and wish it nothing but the best in the future.”
