Humboldt softball advances with another mercy rule win

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School Softball is advancing to the region finals after their victory against Greene County.

On Friday, July 17, the Humboldt softball team hosted the Class 3A Region 2 semi-finals against the Greene County Rams. It was a 10-0 victory for Humboldt in five innings who would score early and often scoring four runs in the first inning, two in the second, three in third and one in the fifth. As a team Humboldt was 10-24 as a team from the plate with seven team RBIs, two walks, and reached four times on an error. Wildcats were aggressive when running the bases, stealing seven on eight attempts.

Key individual stats:

  • Humboldt Pitcher Ellie Jacobson pitched five innings, giving up one hit and struck out two batters.
  • Humboldt’s Shortstop Jori Hajek was 2-3 with a double and home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Humboldt’s Second Baseman Addie Thompson was 2-3 with two RBIs, reached once on an error, scored two runs with two stolen bases.

With the win, Humboldt advances to host the Class 3A, Region 2 finals. The Wildcats next opponent is MOC-Floyd Valley. The region finals will be Monday, July 20. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm.
