Humboldt baseball finishes NCC schedule with a win

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School Baseball completes their regular season conference schedule with a win against Algona.

On Monday, July 13, the Humboldt Wildcats hosted the Bulldogs of Algona, picking up the home win 7-4. For Humboldt they would start the scoring in the first inning with one out, a two run homer off the bat of Starting Pitcher Jacob Thurm. Wildcats would score one in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth. Algona would be held scoreless until the fifth inning after two Wildcat errors allowed three unearned runs to score. The Bulldogs would get the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and score a run before Colby Clarken was called to the mound to record the save.

Key individual stats:

  • Thurm went 2-3 at the plate with two home runs that carried two runs each while also drawing a walk.
  • Thurm pitched four innings in his start, zero runs against, one hit, three walks and struck out four in the win.
  • Humboldt’s First Basemen Levi Naeve went 1-1 with an RBI single and drew three walks.

Humboldt baseball is now 9-5 on the season and finish their North Central Conference regular season with a 4-1 record, good for second place in the standings. The next game for the Wildcats will be Tuesday, July 14 on the road against Storm Lake. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm following the JV game.
