Press release from the Humboldt County Fair Board

Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt County Fair this year is being revised due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As mass gatherings are not recommended this year the Fair Board has elected to cancel all Grandstand Events. This decision was very difficult for the board. Do the age and construction of our old grandstand we did not feel we would be able to provide the proper social distancing for the public. We do have a new grandstand designed that would double our capacity which would allow us to open safer distancing, but we have not raised enough funds at this point to start construction. We have completed most of our electrical upgrades this year in conjunction with the campground and new grandstand. We will have a water line project next year which should complete our infrastructure for this project.

For this year we will have the Queen contest on the portable stage on the east side of the south commons building which will allow for outside social distancing. You may stand or bring a lawn chair and we will have some portable bleachers to may spread out on. No little Ms. or Mr. or 4H style show.

All livestock and shows will go on as scheduled. Animals not staying for the Monday auction can be released after their show to go home.

As a board we reviewed our mission statement to remember our goal for the fair, 4H, FFA and Community.

“The mission of the Humboldt County Fair is to provide the best fair possible for all residents and guest of Humboldt and surrounding counties. It is to provide a gathering place for all communities to showcase their products and skills. It is to create educational, social, cultural and economic opportunities to preserve and promote agriculture, 4H, FFA, and traditions of counties in the central Iowa area of Humboldt. Operations of the fairgrounds facilities year round are to serve the community by providing multipurpose facilities and grounds for both public and private events in a responsible manner generating economic stimulation and tourism development of this community.”

All booster packs may be returned for full refund. All events at the fair this year will be free. We will have food concessions on the grounds and plenty of hand sanitizer stations.

As always, we as a fair board appreciate our community backing us. We are rolling all events we had for this year to 2021 which should be one of our greatest year’s yet.

Thank you for your support and stay safe.
