Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is looking to a local landscaping project to fill the new planters in the downtown area.

During the most recent meeting of the Humboldt City Council approved a proposal from Wempen’s Garden Center to have the newly installed planters filled. These planters are part of the downtown revitalization project and will be planted with low maintenance greenery and mulch. According to City Administrator Travis Goedken the agreement is estimated to cost $47,000.

Previous discussions surrounding the planters discussed the possibility of having the city streets department being the one physically planting. Goedken has confirmed that this will not be the city’s plan and Wempen’s will be providing the labor as part of the agreement.

The proposal to plants, mulch, treatment and installation of the plants was accepted as presented to council.
