Humboldt volleyball dominates for their second NCC win

Hampton, IA – Humboldt High School Volleyball is still unbeaten after being unchallenged in their second North Central Conference match of 2020.

On Thursday, Sept. 17, the Humboldt Wildcats varsity volleyball team took to the road to face Hampton-Dumont-CAL. This match was the second official NCC win for the Wildcats in 2020.

Humboldt was not challenged by their opponents. The first set was a 25-11 victory, second 25-7 and third 25-8 as Humboldt took the match in straight sets. As a team Humboldt put on a powerful offensive display with a .392 attack percentage. The team recorded five total blocks (eight total block assists and one solo).

It was also another good offensive night for Senior Outside Hitter Jori Hajek. She ended the day with 13 kills and an attack percentage of .619 with no errors on 21 attempts. Senior Setter Deni McDaniel had a double-double with 29 assists and 10 digs.

One of the biggest factors in Humboldt’s victory was Hampton-Dumont errors and mistakes. While only nine attack errors appear in the box score there was plenty of mistakes by the Bulldogs. This includes double touches and blocking errors along the net that don’t appear in the box score. Humboldt was able to couple their strong offensive attack with these mistakes to get their easy 3-0 win.

Humboldt High School varsity volleyball is now 17-0 on the season and 2-0 in the North Central Conference. Next for the Wildcats will be a tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Carroll High School. The full day of action will begin at 8:30 am.
