Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt Secondary Road department looking into purchasing a few new pieces of equipment.

During a recent meeting of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors they discussed the need to purchase a few pieces of equipment for the secondary roads. Presenting this wish list was Engineer Ben Loots.

Loots says a couple of items that will be needed sooner include two vehicles. The first being a pickup truck to replace one currently being used at the Bode Shop. The engineer says this truck has been used within the department for a while and it is better to replace is now before it starts needing major repairs. The second vehicle would be a UTV that would be used county wide and multiple uses.

The engineer says that he will not be looking into some “larger ticket items” at this time. This is because road use tax money is expected to see a decrease in the coming quarter. After the winter Loots will take another look at where the department is at and make decisions on some of these higher cost items. One item that is near the top of the list is an excavator.

The supervisors thanked the engineer for an update and encouraged him to look into option for the new equipment. No official board action was taken on this item but is expected to occur during later meetings.
