Humboldt football, Matson dominates Bishop Heelan to advance in the postseason

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School football dominates to advance to the second round of the postseason.

On Friday, Oct. 16 the Humboldt Wildcats hosted Iowa Class 3A traditional powerhouse Bishop Heelan (Sioux City) for the opening round of the postseason. It was 40-17 win for Humboldt who used strong defense and stellar offense to advance to the next round.

Some of the big highlights from this game includes Humboldt’s defensive ball hawking. The Wildcats managed to force five take aways, three fumbles and two interceptions.

Offensively Quarterback Caden Matson had his hand in all six of Humboldt’s touchdowns. He ran for three of them, including a 23 yard touchdown for the Wildcats’ first score. He also had three passing including an 83 yard catch and run by Gabe Gidel. Matson had a total of 398 yards of offense.

The win for Humboldt over Bishop Heelan was the Wildcats fifth of the season. It will advance them to the second round of the postseason to face Spencer on Friday, Oct. 23. Spencer will be coming off a bye the week before. The kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
