Humboldt volleyball tops Alonga, advances to region semi-final

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School volleyball takes control to advance in Iowa Class 3A Region 2.

On Monday, Oct. 19, the Wildcats hosted the Algona Bulldogs for their Class 3A Region 2 quarterfinal match. It was a victor for Humboldt who advanced themselves to the next round of the postseason.

Humboldt won three sets to none. They took the first set 25-6 in a dominate display in which they overwhelmed Algona. The second set was closely contested and at one point was tied at nine points apiece but Humboldt took off not long after that to win the set 25-14. The third set was hotly contested as both teams would trade multi-point leads but ultimately the Wildcats won 25-20 after a late surge.

Humboldt’s top attackers were Kendal Clark (12 kills) and Jori Hajek (eleven kills). Setter Deni McDaniel recorded 29 assists and eleven digs. Lily Groat led the team with five total blocks (one solo, four assists) to go along with seven digs and six service aces. Algona was led by A’Lailiah Perry with seven kills.

Humboldt volleyball is now 31-3 on the season. The Wildcats will advance to the region semi-finals and will host Greene County. The match is scheduled for 7 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
