Dakota City, IA – The executive director of the Iowa Drainage District Association is looking towards the future of drainage in update to the county supervisors.

During the most recent meeting of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors they heard from IDDA Executive Director John Torbert. His agenda item was to provide an update to the board ahead of this year’s annual meeting.

One topic that Tolbert discussed with the supervisors was what is known as conservation drainage. He says this is ideal of farm drainage goes away from the idea of simply just getting the water away from field. Conservation drainage brings in the idea of how can the unwanted water in the fields be stored or conserved for later use when it is needed during the dryer times of the farming season.

The IDDA is becoming part of a grant program that encourages conservation drainage. While the funds are quite yet available the state’s drainage association will be looking to encourage future drainage projects to try conservation practice.

The supervisors thanked Torbert for his time and for providing them with the update on conservation drainage.
