Humboldt, IA – The local extension and outreach office is boasting great youth programs during national 4 H week.

Oct. 4 through Oct. 10 is the national week to recognize that national youth involvement and development program 4 H. In Humboldt County the programs are offered through the Iowa State Extension and Outreach office. Youth Coordinator Kiersten Gatewood talks about the programs and clubs in Humboldt County.

Gatewood says that there are currently 10 different clubs across Humboldt County. These clubs range in different age groups from grades four through 12. For kindergarten through third grade the extension and outreach office offer the clover program. She says that the clover program is an after school program and one group meets on Saturdays.

The local 4 H program offers a variety of programs and ways for their members to learn new skills. Gatewood says that each of clubs meet on a monthly basis. Additionally the program offers workshops and summer camps to learn new skills. She says there is also a babysitting clinic offered through 4 H. The workshops, summer camps and babysitting clinic are always open to the public whether a child is a 4 H member or not.

Gatewood says 4 H is an excellent program for children to get involved in. “4 H is a great program. We build great, positive youth development.” She says that the program allows for good adult to youth partnership to provide their members to have another role model in their lives. “We just have a lot of outstanding children that are already involved in our program and we would love to add more.”
